Parade is an interesting experience in any form it takes. In the text, Susan states that "the image in the parade is exaggerated by the very distance placed between it its viewer" (Susan) She also compares the parade with gigantic because it has a sense of infinity in its conception. I think parade is very theatrical. Art parade eventually takes the form of performance irrespective of its initial form of art be it painting, sculpture or installation. Once it gets into the street, the performance becomes the immediate medium of display. One thing I find interesting about the parade is that it makes me think of it as a public art, thus it enlarges its audience beyond the spheres of the museum. Work like Nick Cave's sound suit is interesting, you see dramatic movement in a handmade cloth as if they are gigantic teddy bears that have been animated. the suits makes sound while the performers dance and the make vocal sound as well.

Another interesting parade is Japanese Art History parade in October 2018 where all the performers fixed their portrait within a golden museum frame and marched with it. It was an annual Halloween parade. The works mimic history paintings such as Van Gogh's self portrait, Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa, and Edvard Munch's scream. Parade has a character of infinity since the viewer doesn't get the whole picture of the scene at once until it ends, and there is a sense of suspense which I think  suggests theatricality and also it is humorously exaggerated because the picturesque or the nature of the parade becomes immoderate in terms of make up or dress just to insight the viewers.

PROMPT 2

Mardi Gras Day, New Orleans

The Carnival stems from the Middle Ages Christian festival where meat was the greatest component of the celebration. Parades happen in Carnivals and all sorts of entertainments occur. With the Carnival, street parties also happen. It owes to countries such as England, German speaking Europe and Eastern Slavic countries. The first image is the US carnival festival called Mardi Gras Day. The parade is like an art form through which various cultures exhibit their festivals. Francis Alys' When Faith Moves Mountains, 2002 Lima, Peru sort of takes the form of parade yet in a more politically disturbing way and also explores the growth of shantytowns for poor people and refugees in Peru. With parade, there are two concepts involved, thus either it is a protest or a celebration of a festival. For instance, the carnival is a celebration of festival with the use of parade whereas the Guerrilla girls protest against certain ideologies or institutions with the use of parade.
