Prompt 2

Carnivals and parades are both temporary forms of performance art, with parades being the more temporary of the two.  Your average parade that moves, controls what, and how fast the viewer will see each spectacle as it passes, while in a carnival setting the view has the control.   Because a parade moves, the time the performers have to interact with the viewers is limited.

Susan Stewart states, “The image in the parade is exaggerated by the very distance placed between it and its viewer”.

In a carnival, since it is not in motion, the viewer can stand around and interact with the performers much longer.  Burning Man, and Pop-up exhibitions are more like carnivals.  They are at there destination for a short time, but they are stationary long enough for the viewer to enjoy them at their own pace.
